Welcome to dotamatic

dotamatic is a program that allows you to print out images across many sheets of paper, using a variety of styles for the pixels. It was inspired by The Rasterbator.

The resulting pages when placed together, typically on a wall, make what some people may even consider art. dotamatic prints directly to your printer.

Frequent problems

The screen is white! Where is the image?

Don't panic. This is because each pixel is too small to show up. They are still all drawn though. Click on the image and it will zoom to that page. Also use the print preview. If you decrease the resolution, each image pixel will take up more of your screen and paper.

The screen looks ugly, and nothing like the paper!

Just remember that what you see on screen will not look the same on paper. The way colours combine, especially from a distance is very different for a screen (which generates light) and paper (which reflects light). In addition there are considerably fewer pixels on the screen than there on paper. This can result in wierd moire effects etc.

When in doubt ....

In the print dialog, select only one page to print. That will give you a better feel for how it will all print out when you use lots of sheets of paper.
